Default Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2: a step back?

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/ny...alliance-2-tr/

Ultimate alliance was cool. I played it on the PS2, and I was somewhat impressed with the graphics (although not with the grid/filter they used on the rendered animation stuff), the game was fun, you could use lots of characters and level them up, some good challenges, and few frustrations.

Why is it that UA2 looks like a step back? Is it because we're in full 3D now (or close) and we're not dealing with a fixed isometric perspective? Seriously.. I watched this and on some parts thought that it was okay, but it kinda reminded me of a budget title. Perhaps I've been spoiled with great and decent graphics/character models, but is this all they could come up with?

Maybe I need to watch it again, but this was my impression anyways.
The gameplay sounds cool, and the story will likely be good - still for me a likely must play, but, the graphics?

What do you think?

is this going to be the same as the first one? I hated the first one, cause it felt like I was playing an arcade game from the 90's. I want something like devil may cry with marvel chars, not tmnt gameplay with marvel chars.

I'm glad something surfaced about the game since I hadn't heard much in a while and was getting worried but yeah, those are some pretty bad graphics. Hopefully a lot of work will go into them in the months leading to release. And wasn't this originally supposed to be early '09?

I think you guys are confused by the viewpoint change, the visuals are the same (and those cutscenes aren't full CG like MUA1). The character models are the same too, if not somewhat better.

Indy, I fully realize that we're looking at apples and oranges here, it's just that the PS2 Marvel UA was good, graphically - I wouldn't say cutting edge, but very good. This is nice that we are in a different viewpoint and that the cutscenes aren't CG, but really, if we are looking at how good it looks, then they should be handling it to the best of thier ability, and if something can't be done well enough, do it a different way. This is the next gen now, let's take it up a notch - seriously.
