Default Metal Gear Solid 4 question from Noob

I have never played a Metal Gear game before. I know, I know.....But I am going to do the buy 2 get 1 free at TRU and was wondering if this game would be a good pick up? I am also picking up Dead Space and Socom. Just wondering if this would be a 3rd game

MGS4 is an awesome game. You could definitely pick up on the back story from wikipedia and other sources but you're missing out on some awesome games.

Additionally, there is a MGS database you can download for free from the PS store. If I remember correctly it will give you the background and history of the entire franchise but will black things out that are tied to MGS4 until you get to that point.

It's a great game to play, but you're going to miss out on alot of the impact of the story by not playing the other ones.

The story still has some weight to it, but as mentioned, much of it won't make sense or isn't quite as massive without knowing the background of the other games.

The online database will unlock information pertaining to things that you have unlocked in MGS4, so if you haven't completed Act 3 of the game, you will only be able to read things from 1 and 2.

I don't recommend playing it without playing the others. Even if you read up on the story beforehand, it won't really have the desired impact.

I bought it never played the others and thought it was great, you should definitely picl it up and download the data base to answer any questions that might come up. Or you can wikipedia the previous games if you really want.
