Default next gen audio, really next gen?

Hi Guys,

I am just wondering if there has been any information about the nextgen audio of these new nextgen gaming titles. To me the audio doesn't seem all that next gen. What I really want to know is what am I really listening to format wise. Found this regarding the hardware, but that is about it. http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-sound-of-tomorrow

I thought this would be smackdown worthy,

Basically the argument is this. Some are talking the difference in next-gen gaming audio is being the equivalent difference of DVD to Blu-ray on a GOOD system.

I don't think so. There isn't enough of a difference in the source material to worry about PCM v.s DD v.s DTS. If there was IMHO, Next gent would have spent more $ and licensed Dolby TrueHD and/or DTS-MA to do the repackaging. In Xbox One case. I have no idea what PS4 is doing.

If its outputting PCM to your reveiver as lossless, the there's no need for the Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA containers.

There is, if you want your receiver to do the decoding. If you recall early Blu-ray players / discs were PCM now g/l finding any.

You can't get ANY better than the raw files. PCM is literally the raw files.

Why do you care if your receiver is doing the decoding? So you want the game to convert LPCM to DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD, just so your receiver can light up and then decode it back to LPCM...because its always PCM that's actually sent to the speakers. So why add another step if you don't need to? PCM rocks.
