Default 'Pillars of Eternity (PC)' - High-Def Digest Review

The 'Pillars of Eternity (PC)' review is up. 5/5 for The Game Itself.

Brian, thanks for the review but you seem to be short on talking about the story? How is the story itself?
thanks

I'm actually going to be playing this soon. I was one of the many backers on Kickstarter, for what that's worth. I've been waiting for that patch to fix the various bugs, namely the inventory double-click thing. They patched that several days ago though and I still haven't gotten around to this.

Too much Tap Titans >_<

I heard that the story was the main selling point of the game. But its also not short. I don't think this is like a CoD campaign where you can blast through it in 9 hours...

Very odd looking screenshots. Does not really take up the whole screen. What we do see in the action part of the game is not very sharp looking.

?? The "action" is full screen. The bottom one shows that. The other screens look partial because of the walls of the cave/buildings the party is in. All isometric RPG's do that.

Wish I knew. (Levi reviewed the game.) I attended an Obsidian presentation on 'Pillars of Eternity' in January, and was completely mesmerized. At least until the end when they started taking questions, and the questions were usually a paragraph long. Anyways, I'm planning on playing through the game in late June.

I've been playing isometric view games/rpgs since the mid nineties, so the concern over the screenshots is pretty funny. No wonder they needed a kickstarter.

The story is much darker than I expected. It has moments of humor, but it's not sunny by any means. The first village you will enter has a massive tree covered with hanging corpses, for instance, put there by the local lord who has lost his mind.

The main narrative is about people called Watchers who can see ghosts, experience the past, and play around with souls. Obviously this is a very alarming condition for the player character so much of the story focuses on learning more about the Watchers and finding a cure. The Watchers have a bad rap on Eora so the player makes enemies simply by being one.

But, that's only the critical path. There are lots and lots of meaty side missions that explore the huge amount of lore in the world. And no, it is definitely not short. It's not really something you could blast through in a weekend.
