I've been thinking about that as well. Something kind of dawned on me the last couple of days though as this wave of disgust with the new consoles washed over me - I think it might be a really good thing for me as a player to go out and try some of these PC exclusives that don't come to consoles - stuff that is totally out of my wheelhouse.

Maybe another 8 years of the same type of games from the console makers would just wind up being the Louis CK thing of "everything's amazing and we're all bored to tears." While I really appreciate the polish on games like inFamous, Killzone, LBP, Gears, Halo, etc. all of those games were really easy, totally unchallenging, and I felt like I had seen everything they had to offer from a game play standpoint after 5 minutes of play. I finished them because they were fun, but I don't feel like I have "grown" at all this generation, if that makes sense.

Three things...not be a "smackdownish dick":

    1) To game at "1080p and over 30fps", you already are likely above the PS4.

    2) Do not discount the 7870 Tahiti edition for $200. Its basically a 7950 in hiding for a $150 less.

    3) Four of those games you listed are given for FREE with Radeon cards....some cards give you THREE games per card! That's $180 saved right there.

    Food for thought.

How bad do you want to be gaming on PC? Like now now or do you mind waiting a few months? Reason I say this is because the new 7xx/islands GPUs are coming out and Haswell CPUs as well.

That is...tempting. How would that card compare to say the GTX 660ti?

I probably won't be building for a few more months. I need to save up some money and I have no idea how long that will take - things have been crazy lately. But I know I have no interest in a high end card, so I wouldn't be buying the new cards. If you mean they will force the price on the older cards down a bit, I hear what you are saying.

The good thing is that SSD prices are dropping lately. I just bought a 256gb samsung for $150 last week, and I think the 500gb was $285 on Dell's site yesterday.

Must have been the slower model then. The 840 Pro couldn't possibly be so cheap. And if it is, I am pissed I didn't wait a few weeks to buy mine.

I'm not sure which model is faster, but I"m certain either is faster than the 5400rpm drive that it replaced.

From slickdeals' listing: Samsung 840 Series Solid State Drive (SSD MZ-7TD500)

~~Just checked on Newegg, yeah it's the older model. That would explain the price drop since the Pro's are in stock now.

    lol yeah.

Right, that's the slower model. (Nothing wrong with that, just saying.) Most people around here got the 840 PRO version which is $100+ more.

Yeah, the 830 512GB (I guess Apple tweaked the firmware though) is in this MacBook Pro here and feels quite fast.

Don't buy everything in one go. Research and shop around. I'm still relearning everything cuz I too was out the PC realm for a long time. It wasn't just the latest mobos/CPUs and GPUs but also water and air cooling, overclocking, SSDs and crazy resolutions above 1080p. Use sites like pcpartpicker.com and keep checking once a week. If you're certain on PC case or RAM or PSU, or even a new keyboard or mouse, buy it when it's at a good price. I'd just hold of on jumping right now on the motherboard, CPU and GPU because all new stuff is coming out by the time you're ready to build. The new stuff will most likely force the price of the older stuff down.
Everyone here helped me out, and am still looking into doing more (overclocking CPU/GPU, adding air cooler and some fans)

Do you have a microcenter by you? I highly recommend them as they have better in store deals than they do on their site. Also newegg a lot of times does some great bundles like mobo + cpu + free ram.

I too didn't want a 680, 690 or Titan (or AMDs equivalent). My GTX 670 is the 2gb version (MSI Power Edition) and I run everything on max settings. Only Crysis 3 so far doesn't run at 60fps on Ultra with some really tough AA being pushed. I barely touched Bioshock Infinite but am currently getting into Farcry 3, and that looks awesome unmodded.

The new 7xx cards are NOT new. They are rebadged/redrivered 6xx cards. AMD is skipping straight to 9xxx series and god knows when they'll get their shit together for a launch. 7xxx and 6xx series is where its at.
