Default Hairspray overall score doesn't add up

It should be 5 stars. The four averaged categories equal 4.5 and the highdef extras add "at least" another 0.5.

Hot Fuzz got a 5 overall and didn't even score a complete 5 but was rounded up from 4.75 (I can't confirm this right now because there is a server error saying the url doesn't exist).

This is the same problem I've pointed out several times about Pirates of the Caribbean which also should have a 5 overall score.

This is based on High Def Digest scoring methodology.

First off, you messed up Hairspray's score for extras which is 4, so it would be 20/25

But you aren't using the methodology:

Hot Fuzz: 4.125 + 0.5 = 4.625
Hairspray: 4.5 + 0.5 = 5

Thanks for pointing this out -- I passed along to Peter, and he agreed that by the site's methodology this disc should be a 5.0. He's adjusted the score accordingly.

We're also going to put some serious thought into just automating the calculation of the overall score. We made the decision earlier on to make it variable so that external factors (most namely price) could be taken into account when calculating the final score, but the end result has been a series of inconsistencies.

For the record, I don't believe these inconsistencies have been motivated by any kind of format bias -- in fact, I've seen an equal number of complaints on both sides, with HD DVD titles (12 Monkeys immediately comes to mind) seeing as inconsistent treatment as Blu-ray.

I don't suspect any format bias either, I was just pointing it out.

I think the methodology should be adjusted for surly a film with a ton of great high-def extras should be rated more than one with fewer high-def extras. Unfortunately because everyone compares one title to the other around here you would have to retroactively change the scores of previous titles, and there are hundreds of them.

It's amazing how much some people are so..... prespective...? Me I just worry about picture and audio quitity (and price) could care less what they say about extas and the movie it self cause all I care is that they have subtitles and over half the time I disagree with the move itself part. So most of the time I don't really care about the overall rating. But isn't it cool, in the same month we had the first 5 star BR and second 5 star HD

Do a re-calculation on Halloween also:

4.5
1.5
2.5
3.5
1

It should have a 3 in overall grade instead of 2.5 as pointed out before.

I honestly don't think the overall score matters. This isn't the NFL, where there's something on the line, and the score counts especially for tiebreakers and whatnot. This is just reviews, some people just take it way too serious.

I'm w/ Randellg, in that price, PQ and (not so much) AQ are the only things I'm concerned with. Reviews are always subjective on the movie itself, and extras, I don't need no stinkin' extras...but that's just me. Maybe the loss of 1/2 a star matters to some people. who have OCD.
