Default HD DVDs should be reviewed on the HD-XA2

I know this might seem much to ask but all the reviews I have been reading online about the XA2 suggests that HD-DVDs should be reviewed on the new XA2 from now on since its around the same price range as most BD players. Not only that but some people have claimed that this machine outputs better HD then BD by far. (Can't say I agree with that because I have yet to see this machine). But yea, I think Peter would probably like to watch them in true 1080p anyway.

Funny you should post this. Peter's new HD-XA2 just arrived late this week, and his first HD DVD reviews using the new machine will go up early next week.

Sweet thanks Jed, any chance will see a few of the bigger HD movies previously reviewed, rereviewed on that machine, like Batman Begins and King Kong?

I'd be interested to hear Peter's thoughts on the new player, even if a very a brief review!

What I'd really like to see Peter do (in all his spare time LOL) is add the 'Star rating' to all his old reviews. I don't know how much time this would take him... he may be able to do this partially from memory, and it will keep the 'averages' that all these users keep quoting accurate.

If it never happens, I understand it's because Peter is too busy watching movies on his FANTASTIC TV! (I think he's still using the KDS-R70XBR2... the 'big brother to my TV).

Yep, firmware is up to date on all playback devices....

To answer some of the other questions in this thread:

1) Peter is slowly going through the older reviews and adding star ratings. When that process is complete, we'll add star rating sortability to the lists of reviews.
2) I wouldn't expect any re-reviews in the immediate short term -- perhaps further down the line
3) Hardware reviews aren't currently our thing (we're looking for some experienced hardware reviewers to join our team -- if you're one, or know of one, please drop me a note!)

for Blu-ray reviews, we need either the Sony unit (PS3 is fine though, beats that Sumsung) or the Pioneer Elite unit!
