Default Exclusives!

I would really like to see some kind of indication next to each movie listed the review list as to weather or not its an exclusive to either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

I am planning to own both and dont want to buy HD-DVD movies that are also released on Blu-Ray (which it seems has slightly better PQ). To have this would save me a lot of time when trying to decide on a purchase.

PQ doesn't depend on the disc format, it depends on the encoding (much of which is MPEG2 for Blu Ray, which is technically an older format)

But differences aside, I agree this would be a very good idea.

lol, all Im saying is that discs released on both formats seem to be getting higher PQ reviews on Blu-Ray so therfore I would rather own a Blu Ray disc if the movie was released on both formats.

Regardless of the reasoning behind the decision, I think this would be a great idea too.

I suppose the only difficulty lies in how long this exclusivity lasts. Is Batman Begins a HD-DVD exclusive as the BD version is not expected until at least six months time?

You could probably do an icon system to work that out.

IE:

Red icon - HD DVD Exclusive
Blue Icon - Blu Ray Exclusive
Red/Blue Icon - Dual Release
Grey Icon - Soon to be released on opposing format

Could work quite well I think, as long as new users have a clear key to refer to.

I don't think it would be all that beneficial nor do I believe there is a PQ difference between the titles in %90 of the case. It's the same encode..how is Blu-ray going to suddenly get better with the same encode. Any PQ differences on a similar title come down to the player.
