Denon and Marantz make very good kit.

However, I can't see an audio/videophile paying 2K for a Blu-ray player that is not final i.e. not Profile 2.0.

Exciting news! I am glad that high-end players are now coming out after all. This is one of the huge advantages of blu-ray: They cover all bases, you can have cheap entrance level players, but you can also have players fit to integrate into an upper-end home cinema installation.

Perhaps said audio/videophile is interested in watching movies and not playing games on the Internet?

This is a machine for CI's to sell to clients who have already spent tens of thousands of dollars on their viewing experience. Another 2k isn't going to phase many of them one way or another.

Yes, that's exactly my position! I did spend that kind of money and I want the best possible viewing experience not to be able to download a ring-tone.

Although $2,100 may seem ludicrious to some for a BD player, there are people who will buy this on release day... It's like a Porsche or Ferrari; not too many people can afford or justify the purchase, but that doesn't mean we should ignore that it exists...

I own the Denon 3800 SD DVD player. I'd put my hand up for this. As mentioned don't ignore it because of the price [-X

$2,100 for a Blu-Ray player??!! See, Sony doesn't care about the consumer. You can get HD-DVD players for $100. How do they expect everyone in America to get one of these at that price??!!

Well, I think this is nutty, but then lots of folks think that I was/am nutty for paying $600 for a PS3 on release date (and sitting in a mall from 4am to 9:30am to reserve one). To each their own I guess.
