First early adoption is over.
Ads have been placed within the faces of all consumers which effectively ends a niche early adoption phase.

This is whats needed and its not something new. Its existed in the market place since the market place has existed.

If 1080P machines do in fact add to the price, this is whats needed.

No frills
1080I, no extras features (even the ability to firmware upgrade).
HDMI, Optical and Digital audio out.
On/Off, FF, REW, Play, Stop, Pause etc. Basic function remote.

Firmware shouldn't be needed to just play a disc.

Next model up and so on adding features, connections, upgradability, 1080P etc etc until a A/V pile player is made.

Standard DVD players are like this and run from $30- Thousands

Since Toshiba set the standard in which it triggered a price that triggered the market place. $98 basic>>>> to whatever they want to charge to the A/V piles!!

If it does not happen within the next year, optical very well could be dead.
HDM will survive but not on optical disc's.

If they want to expand it further to aid the adoption.

Basic Discs, movie and up to DD/DTS 5.1 Audio.

Packed with everything disc's. 25%+ More in cost than basics.

Make it "SLIGHTY" higher than current SD-DVD!!

I am not buying a PS3 or Blu-Ray or supporting any BDA moves.
Warner will back down, since there are double standalone players on HD DVD than on Blu-Ray... i think the party started too early.
With respect, I am not a member of HoG, but have had some epic rides with some of them and they are all great people; I digress... with HD software sales 2:1 what have Warner got to loose on the SA sales? I only own a PS3 because right now its the best SA player. I seriously think that people are underestimating how many PS3s are sold to HD fans...

Regards,

C

Bingo! The average person cannot pay $399.99 for a blu-ray player. It will have to come waaaaaaay down before mass adoption happens. My prediction: They won't even come close to 10 million units this year.
