Default X-Files seasons

seasons 1-5 were shot full frame 4:3, but from season 6 on, they were shot in widescreen 1.78:1, TV safe.

Okay okay they are not the best seasons but seasons 6-8 were in widescreen.

Does anyone know if they were telecined from 35mm film to HD video and mastered on HD videotape at 1080i for seasons 6-8?

This series doesn't hold enough future product sales to totally remaster all of the seasons from the original camera negatives and re-edit it in HD, re-do CGI visual effects in HD.

Fox Television has made their money on the full seasons and on the entire series DVD packages already.
Maybe they can do a 'fan collective Blu-Ray' sets of 10 or 20 episodes that are remastered in 1080p HD (with pillarbox). Let the fans vote on their favorite episodes from 8 seasons to include as a 'best-of' package in HD similar to the Star Trek Fan Collective DVD packages. Include some new commentaries and possibly text commentaries on these episodes as 'special features'.

From what I've heard it was all SD, even the 16:9 stuff... That was just ED (enhanced definition) 480P since fox wasn't hot over HD at the time.

Two minor corrections: Season 5 was actually the first widescreen season. And there was a Season 9 (although maybe you're just not acknowledging that one on purpose)

But yeah, I never expect to see the X-Files show in high-def. Same with Star Trek the Next Generation and some other shows that were shot on film but edited on standard-def video.

I did not watch the season 9 as the downward spiral of quality hit somewhere in season 7 or 8.
Thanks for the correction with season 5 in widescreen.

see this thread on Star Trek The Next Generation (possible) remastering to HD of a 22 year old show:

Anyone know how these are broadcast in syndication on HD channels? I know I've seen the older episodes stretched to 16:9, what about the newer ones? Is it just in standard def?

I haven't checked any out on Sci-Fi HD, but I specifically remember TNT HD showing all episodes in stretched full-screen, including the later ones that were shot in widescreen.

X-Files wil never see the light of say on blu-ray. Ever.

It would be too expensive and the fans just aren't there anymore (okay, some of us are but this isn't Trek we're talking about - Trekkies are lifers and willing to pay the ridiculous amounts for those DVD boxsets.) The remastering, re-editing and HD work would cost too much money and take too much time.

The show will forever and ever exist only in SD, sourced from SD tapes.

That is unless a process is developed that would cut time and cost down drastically.....

Just get the Collector's Edition DVD sets and be happy with them.... I know I am.

(See other posts by me as to why it just isn't logistically possible. Long story short - 35mm negatives likely don't even exist for many of the shows anymore.)
