Default On the verge of taking the big Blu plunge but gots a question....

Am I correct in assuming that if I were to buy a PS3 today (which won't actually be till the 25th) that the console I buy will have the Emotion Engine still in place?

I ask out of curiosity because backwards compatibility is something important and I'm iffy on software emulation.

The Resistance fragfest begins on June 25th... YAY!

Unless you live in Europe or Korea, your PS3 will have the emotion chip.

And with that I'm just going to assume that the PS1's chip is in there as well...

That puts a grin on my face.

I got Legend of Dragoon from a friend a few weeks ago and have been holding off on it. I also have a few PS2 games I've not finished yet. I'm gonna be working the hell outta that thing. ^_^

Please excuse my ignorance.... with the emotion engine in the US model, does that mean that there is 100% compatibility with PS2 games (including all new and future PS2 releases)?

I thought there was only a list of PS2 games that were compatible?
There are a large number of PS2 games that are playable.

With firmware updates though, more games should be added like with the Xbox 360 and regular Xbox games.

impression I had was that the software based emulation wasn't required with the emotion engine equiped ps3s... kinda like having the guts of a ps2 in there... could be totally wrong though, so i'm checkin... there's some good new ps2 games, and if I pick up a ps3, i want to retire the ps2...

Of course it's not 100%, but it's pretty darn close. And yes, everyone else is correct in saying that, at the moment, all U.S. PS3's contain the entire PS2 chipset inside of them.

Finally, welcome to the club. Buy a couple Blu-rays next week. Help out the cause
