Default PS3 & Harmony

I'm trying to decide what to do. I've been an avid HDDVD buyer for the last 6 months. But it's driving me crazy that some of my favorite movies are only available in Blue Ray. I'm thinking of going to it now.
The only reason I'm thinking of PS3 is because GT5 is coming out for it later. Now the question I was asking.

Can I use my Harmony 880 remote with the PS3? It works great with the XBOX 360 & HDDVD add-on.

I just don't warrant to pay extra for a remote, while a dedicated player comes with one. And I don't want to buy a dedicated machine because when GT5 comes out, I will buy it, no mather what.

Also, is it really worth it right now. What I have been doing is waiting until the movies I want to see in HD come out on the PPV, and watch them then (ie : Casino Royale, Night at the Museum, etc...). Not nearly as great as HDDVD but a lot better than DVD.

If somebody can just let me know waiting for a price reduction would be wise choice. Since I will be purchasing PS3 when GT5 comes out anyway in the beginning of 2008.

Thanks for any input

So wait. Your willing to buy a $600 machine. Buy games for $60. Buy Blu-ray for $30 but the deal breaker is a $25 remote? eeerrr

Either way, no, the harmony wont work. The PS3 is Bluetooth, the IR and the harmony remote is IR, not bluetooth but there will eventually be a Bluetooth harmony remote

Default Just my opinion

Right now I'd say unless you want to watch those movies really bad hold off on the PS3,unless you have money burning a hole in youre pocket.I own a PS3 and the XBOX 360 and there just isnt any justification in buying one right now unless you like blu-ray movies.Too answer your question about the harmony remote they do not work with the PS3 due to the fact that it is bluetooth technology.

unless you enjoy the games for the PS3 and want to also set your PS2 aside and have one machine to do it all so im gonna take the opposite side and say if you like gaming, movies, music and more, get yourself a PS3. Its one nice ever growing machine

don't get me wrong I love my PS3 but if you already have a 360 then there isnt much need for the PS3 game wise.Almost everything on the PS3 is available in one way or another on the 360,or soon will be. Until games like Lair,MGS4,and Heavenly Sword come out, then the PS3 will be drool worthy.

I think illegalprelude is on sony's pay roll.

I have to disagree. I use mine as:

DVD player
Digital music storage/player
Blu-Ray player
PS1, PS2, and PS3 game console

It really is the center of my entertainment setup. And that's coming from
someone who also owns the Wii and 360...they are good for games but pale
in functionality next to the PS3.

You can play dvds on a 360 ,you can stream music and store it on your hard drive also.My 360 is the center of my entertainment system, and I can turn all of my stuff on with one button press of my harmony remote.I don't understand why two people on this board are responding to my post instead of responding to his. He asked for peoples opinions and thats what I gave,so stop quoteing my post and give the poster your opinion.

Default Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I'm going to wait for a big price reduction. The cheapest for the PS3 is at walmart for $650.00 CDN, and I have to buy a HDMI cable and a remote for an extra if I'm lucky around $75.00. $725 CDN plus taxes for a blue-ray player. Way too much.
I jumped on the HD bandwagon because it was only $200.00 CDN. And I already used the 360 for playing games.
If I'm lucky (which is never), all of my movies will come on HD DVD eventually. At least the Disney and Fox ones. Sony is too stubborn to leave there blue-ray behind. But things do change, look at Beta. But then also look at DVD audio & super audio. Both were great, but they were different technologies. Which one prevailed? The old Compact Disc technology.
Anyways, that is for another thread somewhere else to discuss.
Thanks for the help in at least saving me a few bucks for the next year. I needed some money anyway for all those Universal movies that are coming in HD DVD and the 360 games (GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Bio Shock, etc....). I won't have to hold back on any of them

I'm going to resist the urge to specifically tell you how much better the PS3 is at media playback, and why I'd never use the 360 for that purpose.

I WAS answering the TC's question as far as "is it worth it or not?"
