In addition to what we already learnt from Sony's media conference earlier in the week – which focused on the physical size of the unit, the increased 120GB hard drive capacity and other features such as the fact that the PS3 Slim supports BraviaLink – the latest tech news out of Japan indicates that the PS3 Slim will bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio direct to your receiver.
Well I needed a PS3 for my bed room but I guess it's going in the living room now that I'll be able to see the DTS-HD and True Dolby symbols finally light up on my 2000$ system LOL.

Yes! That's awesome! Just more icing on the cake for the PS3 slim. I can't wait to pick one up the first week of September.

Interesting. I guess they upgraded the HDMI chip to 1.3?

I've never read anything about the PS3's decoders. I guess audiophiles would prefer the receiver to do the decoding, but, in real life, I wonder if it makes any difference.

It may or may not. I personally would prefer my receiver to do the job it was meant to do which is receive the data in it's purist form and decode it.

Wow...neat. So it will sound exactly the same just now a little light will show up on your receiver. Instead of making your $299 PS3 do all the hard work you'll let your $2,000 receiver do it instead... Totally worth $299!

Like I said. I needed another pppps3 anyways so... Also I have not to date seen any tests to confirm that the signal is exactly the same.

Its the same thing...one is being 'opened' in the player and the other 'opened' in the receiver. It's mainly a placebo thing.

So with this new feature is there anything that high end bluray players from Marantz or Panasonic can do that the Slim PS3 cannot?
