Default Rock Band guitar question

Is there any difference between the guitar in the Rock Band 1 package and the one packaged with Rockband 2?

Thanks
Jeff

It depends on how old the package is for Rock Band 1.

The earliest launch editions of Rock Band used what some refer to as "Generation 1" guitars, which were extremely faulty, to the point that Electronic Arts (the distributor of the game) pretty much had a short term free replacement program for the numerous defective reports they got during the launch of RB1. The problem with the Gen 1 guitars is the strummer mechanism is made out of low quality parts, which, through gradual use, resulted in degradation as minor as lack of responsive when strumming up (or down, or both) all the way up to full blown broken where strumming just didn't work at all. In later batches of the RB 1 special edition, the revised models (basically anything from generation 3 onwards is considered safe) were included in the package, and of course, the guitars in the RB 2 edition are all the much newer model.

Basically, if the RB1 edition you're looking was issued on or around November-December 2007, then chances are, it still includes the faultier, Gen 1 guitar.

Anything beyond the middle of 2008 however, is probably a safe bet in terms of guitar reliability.

Oh,one other basic change to the guitars is that the RB2 guitars also have an audio/optical set up to help with calibrating HDTVs for proper timing and responsiveness, a feature the RB1 guitars all lack.

Hope this helps.

well I got the one that came outby itself in its own package and was first available by itself for 60 bucks. I was thinking of upgrading to a RB2 guitar for the new Beatles game in September, but if I don't need it I will save the $$$

thanks

You don't need to switch. All Rock Band guitars are fully compatible with all Rock Band games, including the upcoming Beatles title.
