Default Question about my 20GB PS3

I bought this model back in Feb of 2007. It has worked and still does work perfectly. I had one question. As you know the 20GB model has no wireless capabilities. I run a long ethernet cable for firmware updates. Can I buy a wireless router to hook to my PC (I use DSL) and buy a wireless USB adaptor for my PS3 to make it have wireless capabilities? Thanks in advance.

So I'm not 100% on this but last I checked (late last year), no, you cannot use a wireless USB adapter with the PS3 as there were no drivers available that would allow the PS3 to read the adapter. Not sure if something has hit the radar in the last few months that would make this possible now though. Having said that, I believe you can use a wireless ethernet adapter like the Linksys Game Adapter. But they're pricey.

You have a couple of options, neither of which is really cheap. I got my 20GB PS3 the same month you did, btw, loving it every day. Anyway, you can get a wireless gaming adapter that hooks up to your ethernet port for under $100 or you can try power line networking, which may be a little faster, but has a tendency to be flaky.

Since they're no longer in manufacture, if you take it to tech support for a problem (say, you can't see BD movies anymore, which is common), they offer to give you a newer model (40 or 80GB, with wireless capabilities).

My advice is, make a backup of your hard drive, then go for that. Maybe you would have to pay $150 for the fixing, but you could look at it as an "upgrade" --which makes more sense.

For $50 you can add wireless to anything with an ethernet port.

I was under the impression that if you backup your hard drive you can only reload the files to that PS3. So if the OP went this route they would be unable to load the backed up files, correct?

Incorrect, but the post you replied to was incorrect as well. Being a 60gig owner I was very cautious about sending it in. Sony assured me I would get the same model on return; a 60 gig w/flash drives, emotion engine, 4 usb's, and SACD support in return.
