Default No 1080P from my PS3

Hi,

Can someone telling me if I am doing anything wrong. I just plunked down and bought myself a brand new 1080P Toshiba LCD TV (52LX177). My previous set was a 720P/1080i Panasonic The problem is I can't get a 1080P picture to come out of my set. If I go into the display settings of my PS3 and manually set my display to 1080P, the picture appears distorted. Pressing the Recall button on my TV remote confirms that 1080P signal is coming in from the PS3 but like I said the picture is distorted. My OS version on my PS3 is 1.82.

Please this is driving me nuts. Can someone tell me why I can't get a 1080P.

MOD NOTE: I moved this to the Blu-Ray and Video Games area because it was more fitting there than HD DVD general.

Not all 1080p TVs can accept a 1080p signal from a component cable.

If you're using a component cable, that's the problem. Get an HDMI cable.

Can you clarify what you mean by the image being distorted? It is a bunch of squiggly lines on the tv or are things misshapen, or something else?

{*edit*} Two things you need as already stated: firmware update and HDMI cable. After that, check your BD/DVD settings: BD/DVD video output format set to auto, 1080p 24hz output set to auto.

Firmware update is not required for 1080p. Also, he has confirmed 1080p is coming from the PS3, but the tv is not displaying it correctly. My bet is on component cables. You can pick up an HDMI cable for $25 at Walmart or $5 online.
