Default ps3 noise

OK, I bought my ps3 this monday and it was a defective unit.

It had a shrilling high pitched whiney noise that was unbearable.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-ente...ves-251223.php

So I returned it and got a new one this morning.

This one runs so perfectly. NO more shrilling sound.

However, my worry is it's too quiet. I've read on different forums and articles about how many ps3 owners are saying the fans on theirs' are really loud.

Mine is always quiet. IT's so quiet I can't believe how quiet it is. I'm just wondering, if my ps3's fans are underperforming?

I read many ppl say when they do [email protected] then their ps3 gets louder, but mine is still really quiet. not that im complaining but after my first ps3 was defective and my 360 dying I'm just really paranoid.

How quiet/loud are your ps3s?

PS3 has one giant 16 cm fan inside. If you're not having any repeated issues that would relate to overheating (graphics artifacts, stuttering sound) then don't worry about it.

does ur ps3 run really quiety all the time?

I've read that the ps3 has 3 levels of fan speed.

seems like mine stays at level 1 all the time.

once again, I can't beleive how quiet this thing is, its so nice.

Dunno where you read the fan has 3 speeds, from what I've seen of user testing there are as many as 9 different fan speed levels. If yours is running so cool that it never goes above the first level then I'd say it's a good thing, not a bad. If you want to hear it spin up, try the DVD and PS1/PS2 upscaling modes.

It's normal to have a quiet PS3, I wouldn't worry. Besides, if it gets too hot for it to be safe, the system automatically turns off.

It even gives a warning if it can, telling you the system has overheated.

whats worse is, I dont believe in Nuclear War so in order for my 360 not to go thermal nuclear and blow up Cali, I have the damn fan on mine. If you think your 360 is loud stock, wait till you hear it with the fan
