Default Ps3, Hdtv?

Hello everyone I am new to this forum and before I ask my question I would like to say that I did search google and then your forum (after finding the forum on google) but could not find the answer. Anyway, I am a real newbie when it comes to all the high-tech everything that you guys like discussing. Anyway, on to my question.

So I am probably buying a PS3 soon, but I do not know if my current TV supports the HD of the PS3. I hope someone can help me, and please bear with me because I do not have a lot of knowledge with this kind of stuff. Anyway, I can plug in 6 different things into my TV, but one of them says "HD/DVD in". From left to right there are the following holes, R-Audio-L, Y, Pb Pr. Below it says "(108i/720p/480p/480i)". Now what I am wondering is if I can plug my future PS3 into this and will it work? Please keep in mind I do not have as much knowledge as everyone else on the forum, in fact I think I have the least amount of smart with regards to HDTV's, HDMI, etc.

Yes, you will need a set of component wires.

The short answer to your question is...yes.

The PS3 can currently display resolutions UP to 1080p. Your TV goes up to 1080i. Whenever you decide to buy a new 1080p TV, the PS3 will be able to take full advantage of that TV as well. You will need a component cable (Y, Pb, and Pr) for the PS3. Of course, you have access to MUCH better sound if you have an HDMI port on your TV and A/V receiver.

what the others said.

the inputs you are looking at are component in; they carry a HD video signal. for that, as mentioned above, you need to buy separate component cables (off the shelf ones will not work, other than the HDMI and optical audio out, the ps3 has a proprietary video/audio jack).

the ps3 supports 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p - so it sounds like your tv can handle most of what the ps3 does.
