Default Converting video files to be compatible with PS3?

I have some videos that are in file formats that are not compatible with the PS3 such as .MOV and .FLV files. Does anyone know of any low priced or free converters that will make videos compatible with the PS3?

Handbrake works well and is available for both Windows and OS X.

If some MPEGs aren't working right, I've had good luck running them through MPEG2REPAIR. It's not really a conversion per say, but it cleans up the metadata or something and suddenly the files play everywhere they ought to.

I use MeGUI, but I think the simplest solution for someone who's not familiar with video encoding would be RipBot264.
