Default Question about CD ripping...

First, can I rip video from a CD?

Second, can the PS3 playback Divx (the codec) format AVI files?

I'm about to put a whole lot of episodes of Bleach onto my system when I see a buddy of mine soon, and wanna know if I can rip it to the PS3 or not.

You can copy video files but you can't rip video discs, at least none that I've tried.

Only one sure-fire way to find out, and that is to try yourself.

I think I understand, but will it be able to play a divx encoded video file?

No, the PS3 cannot play a DivX encoded file because the file type is owned by another company. It could be implemented in the future, but as of right now, the Sony development team has decided not to try to gain rights to any kind of formats that isn't open or is owned by another company.

I'm a Bleach fan myself, and am hoping they do this in the future, but it looks like the only way to play them right now is to hook up a PC to your HDMI player and media share it across your network. It is unfortunate. If it was possible to play video files on VLC via a linux install on the PS3, that also would be a solution, but I've not heard anything about video playback capabilities via a linux install on PS3.
