Default Problems playing a Blu-ray with my PS3

I have an older fat PS3 40gig. I tried playing the movie Day watch and the PS3 didn't even recognize I had a disc in the player.

I have the latest software version and I have not had a single problem with it recognizing any previous discs and I tried about 10 other Blu ray and DVD's after with not one problem.

Does anyone know of any problems with this disc?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Wish I could help, but I'm having a similar problem myself.

Back when it was released, I watched 'Zack & Miri' in my PS3, (same model as yours), and it played fine. However when I tried to rewatch it a couple weeks ago, it would not recognize the disc at all.

Other discs are all working fine, but this one . . . not so much.
It's puzzling.

Hopefully a guru or two from around here can help us out.

Try clearing the catch? Maybe something there is gumming it up.

I remember some people need to clear the memory for Wolverine and one or two other. But that may have been a BD live issue.

There is also the possibility that the disc is bad.
Does it work with any other player?

It may be the Netflix disc. I had a copy of The Patriot (blu Ray) that I got from netfilx that would not play on my machine. Picked up a cheap copy of the same movie at B&N, and it works fine.

Could just something as simple be a greasy thumb print on the disc. The data layer is on the tippy top so a surface spot can be an issue sometimes although with the hard top coat it can be just wiped off. A lot of times with Netflix the last viewer may have put a thumb print and it may not have got wiped off. Just because the Blu-ray Disc is more durable than a DVD does not mean it does not repel greasy pizza prints.

With my Netflix issue, the BR loaded, but would not go beyond the main menu. Would just keep looping back to the main menu no matter what I hit (Play, FF, etc.) i sometimes look at the netflix discs, and really wonder if they are not copies.

I'd also recommend clearing out the BD Data Utility cache to see if that helps. Am no expert though and can't really go into much technical detail.
