Default 'Spy Kids Collection (Canadian Import)' - High-Def Digest Review

Nate has reviewed the 'Spy Kids Collection (Canadian Import).' He says this goes from bad to worse to awful! This series is just for the kiddies. This Blu-ray set from Alliance has poor, mislabled video, mediocre audio, and no extras. This is one to avoid!

Shocked! What the heck Alliance?!?!

Nate, you can borrow my Halloween 'triple flick' disc if you like (instead of buying it if you want to just review it and return it to me)

Since there isn't a single extra, there aren't any high-def exclusives to be found, either, except for the fact that you can read the packaging and learn a little bit of French. You can't do that with the domestic DVD releases!
I <3 Nate. He makes me laugh.

Not really. They are releasing movies that likely will never seen the light of day on Blu-ray (Spy Kids will though). 90% of Alliance's audience does not care about Apsect Ratios or anything like that.

Not surprised about the extras, I'm surprised at the ratings themselves. With the exception of 3, the first two are pretty fucking cool little flicks. Maybe you have to be Latino to get the ton of in-jokes and gags in order for it to pay off?

I'll pass on the Alliance set and hope for a proper release someday.

Like what? Blade? Equilibrium? Pretty much all movies will make it to blu-ray sooner or later.

If you choice-pick titles, sure. What about:
Halloween 6, H20, Resurection
A Hard Days Night
Cursed
The Faculty
Cop Land
From Dusk Till Dawn
Illusionist
etc.

Chances of them coming to Blu domestically are slim, and/or they might be years away. I'm willing to live with imperfections if it means ditching a 480i/480p DVD for a 1080i/1080p Blu-ray.

And no, "pretty much all movies" won't make it to Blu-ray. LaserDisc and VHS still have tons of titles not available on DVD, and Blu-ray will likely have even a shorter shelf-life compared to DVD. Studios are already skipping over new releases on Blu-ray and it makes it nearly impossible for them to ever hit Blu. I enjoy most of Alliances releases for what they are - HD versions of movies I'd want to own. If the AR is really bad I might skip it, but 1.85:1 to 1.78:1 is nothing (to me, Nate seems to hate it!)

Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah. You can dis the third film all you want but the first two are actually good movies. Well, it's just my opinion, but, honestly, the first two films are GOOD and very clever. The third was mediocre and disappointing, like all 3rd movies.
