Default 'Outlander (Canadian Import)' - High-Def Digest Review

Tom has reviewed 'Outlander.' He says this is a fairly entertaining if none too original movie. This Blu-ray is a disaster, with cropped video and poor image control. The Audio is an improvement, but even the supplements are listed incorrectly. This one comes with a strong warning. One to avoid.

I've got the UK import pre-ordered. Here's hoping they don't fuck that one up too.

In the studio's defense, I doubt Alliance transferred the movie themselves. They were undoubtedly just using a cropped broadcast master supplied by Weinstein, intended for cable.

Of course, that doesn't at all excuse them for using that sub-par master when they should have licensed the OAR DVD master instead.

in their defense, yes, they just plopped their altered to fit your tv chopped up picture on blu-ray and called it good. whoops, that wasn't in their defense. i get why some of their releases have been cropped, i totally understand, but that doesn't make it any more forgivable in my book.

this would be a blind buy for me, but since it's a cropped picture blind buy, it's a no buy.

As a Beowulf fan I really enjoy this reinterpretation. They basically combined Grendel, his mother, and the dragon all into one cool-looking creature. It's a fun movie, though I thought they should have utilized Ron Perlman better.

Hope the UK version turns out well as I really want to get the film on Blu-Ray.

Don't worry - once Weinstein gets back on the Blu train they will release it properly...
