Default David Poland (Movie Industry Blogger) writes about B&N's blu-ray prices

Specifically, their ridiculous price for the new Watchmen blu ray. He makes good points! Does Barnes & Noble even want to sell blu ray? With those prices, seems like they don't.

B&N had ridiculous prices on dvds for as long as I can remember, so it makes perfect sense that their Blu prices are outrageous as well. I have never bought a CD, DVD, or Blu there and I doubt I ever will.

It's not just Barnes & Noble, but bookstores in general that stock movies. Borders is equally ridiculous. I had a 50% off coupon a few weeks back, and even that couldn't get me to the price on Amazon without a coupon. Seriously, who pays $45 for a movie?

I never ever go there, but couldn't pass up the 50% sale on criterion. That's a start right? hopefully they reduce their prices, otherwise I got Amazon, J&R(Sales all the time), BB(sales only).

B&N aren't the only ones with the Skyrocketed prices, Best Buy & Entertainment Outlet come to mind. EO, used to have sales there all the time with DVDs, but their BDs are ridiculous. If you can find a Blu-Ray for less than $29.99 there, you're lucky. At least BB have improved by throwing some sales a bit more often, like this week, they have a good $14.99 selection.

i think 90 percent of the market who would pick up watchmen on blu are already aware they can find it cheaper.

At least Barnes & Noble does that Buy 2 get 1 free deal. I agree their prices are outrageous, but I just bought some Doctor Who discs from them as their prices (with the membership card) were about $5 more than what websites, even Amazon were selling their stuff at, so sometimes it is just worth it to go there for convenience.

Of course, keep in mind we're net-savvy bargain-hunters. Most of the world is not. B&N's prices are part of why people bitch that Blu-Ray is too expensive, because they think that's normal price. I rarely pay more than $20 for a BR.

Barnes & Noble has good sales and sends out good coupons, if you're a member. I never buy at full price, unless I'm doing a buy 2 get 1 free. But they're not hurting blu-rays image, at all. Their DVD prices are usually only about $5 lower.

One good example is that B&N put ALL of the Criterion blus on sale for 50% off, and even 60% off, if you're a member. Which made them cheaper than Amazon by a few dollars on each title - even with tax.

They wouldn't charge it if people didn't buy it. Same with FYE, Borders, etc. There are a lot of stupid people in this world who are fine with overpaying and not trying to find the best deal.

$50+ HDMI cables at Best Buy, for instance.
