Default Understanding.....1080p/AVC MPEG -4

Hi everyone, Happy Memorial Weekend!

Can someone help me understand on Blu-ray's about the 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer? I know there's also a 1080p/VC-1 encoding...

I really don't fully understand the meaning, hoping it can be broken down to make sense.

Thanks!

AVC/Mpeg4 and VC-1 are just different video compression software. On DVD, only mpeg-2 compression software was approved by the DVD Forum, so all DVDs use mpeg2. The BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) approved 3 video software for use on blu-rays: mpeg-2, AVC/mpeg-4, and VC-1. So you will find blu-rays with any of those video software which, depending on the encoding, can produce similar results. Which one is used is a studio choice.
