Question Zack and Miri

I just picked this up in the blockbuster sale going on, but read that the blockbuster version is just the "R" rated version, and not the unrated. Is there a major difference between the 2? Just curious, since i would return it if they are much different.

thanks

I think Kevin Smith said he wasn't going to do an unrated version.
I'm pretty sure the only difference is the cover art.
Some retailers would only stock versions that said 'Zack & Miri', while others say 'Zack & Miri Make A Porno'

thanks for the reply. I was just at Target, and looked at a copy of the movie, and it had an R rating on the back. I saw a post in another thread about the blockbuster version being different.

thanks!

I know the Weinstein Company has an exclusive rental deal with Blockbuster Video. The DVDs provided to Blockbuster are rental exclusive editions.

These Blockbuster editions include either deleted scenes or a featurette not found on the regular retail releases but lose the rest of the extras.

I am not not sure if they do that with the Blu-ray Discs but the DVDs will be different.

there is no reason why this need an entirely new thread from the review thread...there's only one version and it's the R rated version. smith is insane for not making an unrated version, some of the funniest and best parts are from the deleted scenes...no unrated=no buy for me.

What's the big deal, if all of the unrated content is in the deleted scenes?

because it's not in the actual film itself...i dont wana watch a movie and then watch great deleted content that should be in the movie itself and give me an opinion of the movie overall...think of the dark knight without any heath ledger joker scenes and then watching all those scenes in the deleted scenes after watching the film....

I actually support the point you are making here and think it's a good one. Z&M was good as is and in my opinion barely got by with the R rating. It probably could have easily been NC-17 or gone unrated but the NC-17 and/or unrated status is death for a film that is supposed to show in theatres. Most theatres won't touch films with NC-17 ratings, and they do the same thing with films that have no rating because they know that 'unrated' pretty much means it would have been NC-17.

I'm not sure how much material that wasn't in the theatrical release would really have been in the finished product as some may have been deleted for editorial purposes rather than for ratings purposes. That said, for me the best answer is to offer buyers the ability to use seamless branching to watch the 'extreme version' of a film rather than the theatrical release. That way everyone gets what they want.
