Default AKIRA: Dolby True HD 192 5.1 coming up stereo, Help!

Hi, I did a search, and was not able to find anything here on this subject. Sorry if this has been beaten to death somewhere else.

Basically, I could have sworn that my set up was rocking a Dolby True HD Japanese 5.1 in 192kHz the last time I watched Akira. Then yesterday, I played it for my friends, and noticed that it displayed Stereo on my receiver. I pressed my ear against the center channel speaker and sure enough, there was no sound coming out of it or the surrounds. Every other Bluray works fine with TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio.

Everything is set to Bitstream through the HDMI. Here's my setup.

Onkyo TX-SR606
Samsung BD-P1500
Vizio VP504 50" Plasma
Polk RT55i
Polk CS400i
Polk FX500i
Velodyne CHT-10

I read the Onkyo site, the 606 is capable of decoding 192kHz 5.1.
Is it the player that can't pass along 192? What is the problem here?

Anyone figure this out? Thanks in advance.

I have a problem with this movie too. My Pioneer BDP-51FD internally decodes it instead of bitstreaming it to my DENON AVR2808

+1 guys. I can play the english TrueHd track no problem, but the Japanese track ends up acting screwy. It seems like my S350 isn;t sure what to do with it. Either it tries to decode and I get a stereo mix reported by the VSX-94, or it sends it to the Pioneer to decode, and then I get the noise associated with not being able to pass through the higher frequencies.

Big part of getting this blu was that audio track and it seems to be causing havoc with folks equipment that shouldn't have a problem with it. A good friend of mine is having similar issues....

Coincidentally I played that Blu ray last night, I must note that it was the japanese edition though I believe there should be no difference at all.

I used a PS3 via HDMI to a Yamaha RX-V1700, and it worked perfectly fine. I am not using bitstream, but plain PCM. Maybe that difference is relevant.

Mine works too the problem is my player decodes it instead of just bitstreaming it to my amp. But I still get 5.1 192hz PCM. But this is weird still

Yes, it's not the same thing. The PS3 is downcoverting the original Dolby TrueHD file before it hits the Bitstream as a PCM audio. The decode and conversion should all be done in the A/V Receiver, which has dedicated components and DAC's for audio.

It's not downconverting, the PS3 is just decoding the TrueHD track and sending it out as PCM. The receiver is still getting the full 192 kHz/24-bit track.

I tried playing Akira through my PS3 using the PCM output, and IT STILL comes up as stereo on my Onkyo 606, albeit in 192kHz. Did they give us a 192kHz stereo track? That would make the most sense here, because the equipment is certainly capable of running a 5.1 mix. This is driving me nuts. Has anyone been successful in getting a 5.1 192kHz out? If you have, please tell us what equipment you used. Thanks.

I get the 5.1 track at 192/24.
I have the 605 and it works fine. You have it set to Direct right?
With the PS3 you should also go back to it's settings and make sure all of the Audio options are correct.
