Default 'The Thirteenth Floor' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'The Thirteenth Floor. Wow, this one sounds bad in every which way possible! This Blu-ray has cruddy video and audio and lame-o extras. One to avoid.

Shame about the specs, because I actually enjoyed this movie. This will be a skip even at the cheapest price.

Nah. It was a horror version of "The 19th Floor" from "Sideways Stories from Wayside School".

As far as timeline goes, I think shooting overlapped, but Dark City was released after The Matrix (but same year I think).

I think this review is extremely unfair. I think the movie was worth a LOT more than 1.5 stars and personally I was glad I upgraded the DVD to the Blu-Ray. Admittedly the picture is soft when the opening titles are over them, but this soon improves. I don't recall any of the dirt the reviewer mentions - quite the opposite. It's almost got me wondering if the UK Blu-Ray is a different transfer from the US one, except the review of the film is so out-of-wack with the reality I'm not so sure.

I am pretty sure they were the same year as there was a lot of talk that Dark City would have received more praise had it been released a different year than The Matrix, I'll go look 'em up.

edit: according to IMDB Dark City was 1998. I could have sworn they were same year. Peter, check your facts would ya?! (I keeed)

Default Dark City was pre-Matrix

In theaters Feb 27th, 1998.. The Matrix came over a year later. The Thirteenth Floor came 2 months after the Matrix. I don't think either would qualify as Matrix ripoffs (if anything, the Matrix ripped off elements of Dark City).. The Thirteenth Floor was just a bad movie.

The fact that Roger Ebert named Dark City his favourite film of 1998 should clear this up easily.
