Default Band of Brothers PiP Sound Issue

Hey All,

I just started to watch Band of Brothers on Blu (had it on DVD for years) and was watching the version that has the PiP of the veterans who comment on what you're watching.

The picture pops up but I can't hear anything they're saying. All I hear is the main DTS HD MA track. I checked the settings numerous time to see if there was some different audio setting but no such luck.

Any clues as to what is going on?

I'm playing it on the Sony BDP-BX1 hooked up to my Integra DTR 7.8 receiver via HDMI. No other audio or video issues. Both PQ and AQ are amazing. I'd just like to hear the vets talk.

Thanks
Matthew

Pretty sure I am as I am having the receiver decode everything? Do I need to change it to PCM?

Switch it to PCM (having the player decode) and that should fix everything. You won't get the MA track for the main presentation but you'll at least get the audio from the PiP segments.

Not a perfect solution but it's the best option you've got.

I'll give that a try tomorrow. I don't care about the MA track for this feature. I just want to hear what they have to say. Thanks for the speedy help Super.

Will they ever make a player (besides the PS3) that can handle secondary audio while playing the lossless track?

They already do... Samsung BD-p2500 & 2550 decode all lossless codecs, I'm pretty sure the Sony S550 does, I'm pretty sure the Panasonic and Pioneer players do, the Denon player does.... Basically every profile 2.0 player will at least decode TrueHD.

Yeah but can they decode two audio signals at once as needed by the PiP feature of BoB?

From that I understand from the Panasonic BD35 thread at AVS (I own the 35) if you decode internally and watch PiP material, eveything gets downgraded to lossy. In other words the movie itself is lossy as well as the PiP content. The player won't flip back and forth from lossless to lossy.

I suspect that all BD players do this.

And to be honest that's reasonable. If you're watching the PiP features odds are that's where your interest is rather than the main audio track.
