Default Dragonball Z refreshed & renewed in HD for 20th Anniversary

According to Japanese Magazine, Shonen Jump, 100 DragonBall Z episodes will have renewed opening and closing titles, be re-edited in HD, and re-dubbed by the original voice actors.

The newly re-mastered DragonBall Z will debut in Japan on April 5th at 9:00am, on Fuji TV.

There is no word on when or whether the episodes will come to the US.

If they put out a blu-ray release of these, I might be tempted to get the first couple sagas/seasons. Assuming, of course, that there's a noticeable difference and their "remaster" isn't just a placebo remastering.

If they truly cut it down to 100 episodes, it could become one of the greatest anime series of all time.

BTW, it is guaranteed to come out in the US, as it will keep Funimation in business for the next 10 years.

I just got season 8 today at BB. I'm happy with this series in DVD. They should have started these on BD in the first place. :-/ One more season for DBZ. Yay!

Here is teh original information:

The DBZ TV series is receiving an extensive "refresh" for Japanese television airing.

*This is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of DBZ

*While based on the original animation production, it is being updated with new technology.

*This includes extending the frames for formatting on an HD 16:9 display (note: not cropping the image).

*The original Japanese cast is re-grouping to re-voice the show (where available, and unfortunately not including those that have passed on, such as Hirotaka Suzuoki [Tenshinhan]).

*Sound effects are being updated.

*Unlike the general show, the OPs and EDs are being completely redone.

*While not in the above announcement, other reports are noting that the number of episodes is being reduced from 291 to approximately 100.

*This begins 05 April 2009 @ 9 am.

I think they will do the same like what they did to Evangelion 1.0, it compress 6 episode into 1 1/2 hour long movie with added visual fx

Yeah, but Evangelion also has absolutely no plot, it is just a random mess of scenes stiched together.

Maybe not, but I love watching it. The only thing I hated about Evangelion was the ending. It was horrible.
