Default Is there ever going to be a BD/DVD combo format?

Serious question guys, I have a notebook without a BD player, and I don't really like to double dip, I thought the HD DVD combo discs were a good idea (hey sometimes especially at night I can't turn on my Bravia and max out the volume for obvious reasons).

I don't mind watching BD's on my notebook when everyone else is asleep (or for whatever reason). Why can't BDA make a combo format standard?

Nope there are no plans or specs for a double-sided, DVD/BD combo disc.

I for one am happy as hell. Couldn't stand HD DVD combo's for various reasons.

JVC tested a prototype, but it was cost prohibitive. Besides, why would anyone want to reward Toshiba with extra DVD royalties after this debacle.

No, because Blu-ray isn't apart of the DVD Forum.

let's hope not. I hate all of the combos. I have/had two copies of 'Brokeback Mountain' and can never get either to play completely through. It keeps on freezing. I had this problem with other combos to. THEY SUCK.

I hope not!

I hated the combos for HD DVD. Granted, the "idea" is nice. However, I'd rather they just keep the prices lower. That way, instead of higher priced combos, we might get lower costing singles. All in all, keeping it as an option(buying both) if you need it.

I really, really hope not. The price of BDs (and HDTVs) is the #1 reason the average consumer still buys DVDs. If combos were released, the price would go even higher and the format would probably go the way of Laserdisc in under 12 months. The BDA needs to bring prices down (or at the very least stop them from increasing) if they expect to replace DVD over the next 5 years.

Besides, if you're one of the handful of "OMG I need this movie to play in my Ford Explorer's DVD player too!" guys, nothing is stopping you from buying a cheap DVD in addition to the BD. The majority shouldn't have to pay more to satisfy the needs of the few.

I've love my HD-DVD combo discs. I think it's a great idea because I can watch the DVD sides on the road. I suspect the DVD forum would not sanction it on Blu-Ray discs though. Besides, their expensive enough as it is. Imagine the price if they were to add it.

If all Blu-Ray discs came with the "digital Copy", that would work for me too
