I loved the original shutter but never got to see this. I have heard really mixed things about it so I will blind buy it and hope for the best plus horror is desperate on blu-ray and i will take what I can. though this summer july in particular is seeing lots of horror releases on blu.

Another PG-13 compliant remake of a Japanese horror film. I don't think the unrated BD release can save it. I am going to wait for the review!

Yeah, we need more horror indeed (preferably with a touch of quality ). Weinstein should start releasing again. HD DVD or Blu-Ray, I don't care, but start releasing in HD again!!!!!

PG-13 is fine for most asian horror remakes, they don't rely on gore most of the time (Miike aside). That said, it's based on a Thai horror film, not Japanese. No idea why they chose to shoot it in Japan other than 1) it's "exotic" to us Americans and 2) Japanese director (also a random choice). Have to point that out since I'm assuming most people don't even know Thai cinema exists outside of Tony Jaa (who nobody even remembers haha).

Asian horror just hasn't been very good these last few years Though hopefully we will get a Blu release of the original at some point.

Right, but there were some good offerings among them, too, like Audition, Marebito, Strange Circus, Imprint, to mention just a few that occur to me. Thank you for the hint that it was originally Thai!

I saw the original this week and it was very effective in the "creepy" department. I recommend that one.
