Default Question About Fox Titles

The last 2 Fox titles I bought "Ice Age" & "Alvin & The Chipmunks" were on single BD-25s with 16mbps AVC encoding.

"I, Robot" is on a BD-50 with 25MBPS AVC encoding.

As far as the encoding goes does that mean that I, Robot will have a much better picture quality since it is at 25MBPS AVC encoding than the other 2 titles at 16MBPS encoding?

All of the titles use DTS-HD MA soundtracks.

I was hoping Fox wasn't downgrading video quality by using BD-25s.

i dont think the quality is downgraded, i think since ice age and alvin are both like only 1 and 1/2 hrs, i dont think the size of the disc lowered the quality., just my 2 cents

I just wondered if it made the video quality any less by having 16MBPS AVC vs 25MBPS AVC encoding.

Depends on the source material. Some need as much space as they can get, some don't. You said you've bought both BD-25s, so without being too much of a wiseass I'd have to say that the best way to answer your question is to watch them.

Yeah it appears if it is on BD25 for Fox its low bit rate AVC at least with their releases so far this year.

Hitman (BD25) - 16 mbps AVC
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (BD50) - 35 mbps AVC

I dont think the quality is less, movies are still getting five stars that have a lower bitrate. I dont understand why people care about bitrate. I think the source matters more.

Bitrate is not the only measure for PQ. It isn't even the biggest factor.

Thanks for the input. Trying to learn about bitrate encodes.

So does that mean that shorter movies don't need higher bitrate encodes but longer length movies do?

Just trying to figure out why Fox is putting out some movies on BD-25s at 16MPBS encodes & some on BD-50s with 25MPBS encodes.

I watched Ice Age & thought it looked okay. Not as good as I, Robot or some of the other really good Fox transfers.

Do you think the movies on BD-25s with 16MBPS encodes would look even better on BD-50s with 25MBPS encodes?

I think I remember some people saying some of the Disney movies were up in the 40MPBS range.

I agree the encoding & the transfers are the most important as to how it will look but trying to figure out if the higher bitrate encodes would make it look even better than the lower bitrate encodes.
