Cool. I haven't watched the show in the while though. How many episodes is in the first season anyway?

Hey BBC, put Doctor Who on Blu-Ray!

Dr Who is shot in standard def only I'm afraid. Since it's effects heavy they save cash by using lower res digibeta.
However... the new series (4th), about to air in a couple of weeks, is in HD... I think.

Torchwood, the Dr Who spin off, has been HD so they should be releasing that at some point. They do that show in HD because it doesn't have as many effects shots.

There are 13 episodes per season in Robin Hood and the first season was released on BD in the UK last Autumn.

The discs are not regionally coded either so will play back fine on US equipment.

Doctor Who isnt made in HD and series 4 set to debut on 5 April isnt HD either.

Furthermore series show runner Russell T Davies had pledged to resist a move to HD saying its too expensive.

Ok. I thought I saw the trailer for the new series on the BBC HD channel.

..... Robin Hood is also out on HD DVD, as well as Blu-Ray, in the UK.

Default 1080p?

My son ordered this set from Amazon.co.uk and when it got here we immediately popped it into the machine... it was gorgeous!

It was not, however in 1080p. It was only 1080i. If this version for N.America is claiming to be 1080p then it would have to be a complete recode.

BTW... Torchwood Series One is available on Blu-Ray at the end of June from Amazon.co.uk.

$99 for 13 episodes? BBC's stuff is always expensive ($70 for Doctor Who season 1).

Why is the series spread across four discs? Why not two? Maybe it's naivete on my part but shouldn't they be able to put more episodes onto a single Blu-ray disc due to higher capacity? I mean, for god's sake, they can put four episodes onto a standard DVD.

I think people are engrained now to think more discs=better value=higher price. I think they could easily put it on 2 discs.
