Default Universal/Paramount

Forgive me if this has already been discussed. I'm curious as to when these two studios plan to start releasing on Blu! I went purple in December, but I must say that there is not that much on the currently announced upcoming slate of Blu releases that excites me.

I'd really like to see movies like 'there will be blood', forrest gump, sweeney todd, etc.

No one seems to know the real answer. A lot are speculating that it may be the shortage of BD50's.

think about logistics of it

whenever someone went from hd-dvd to blu-ray before or vice versa, they had time to plan, time to get the wheels in motion, time to get titles going

with these two, hd-dvd pretty much crumbled in a matter of a week, and their announcement wasn't by their choice, it was by nessesity

patience

i honestly would not be surprised if they are just dicking around with getting titles out just due to spite of being forced into another format. i am sure they were not happy aobut going to blu ray and i doubt they are in any rush.

My guess would be Paramount will start Blu between July and Sept and Universal will start in the fall. This is a wild guess based on observing what other smaller studios have done.

only problem with that is...these aren't small studios.

In fact, they are the exact opposite.

No, the two companies that have switched (Paramount and Warner) went from neutral to exclusive, meaning that they had already been developing for both from the getgo, so there was no need to plan or get the wheels in motion, because the movies were already being made in the format prior to the announcement.

Sure but the wheels turn slower on those big vehicles like Paramount and Universal. I would think they have plenty of decisions on how best to break into, in Universal's case, or re-enter the Blu market in Paramount's case. I am sure there is alot for both to do and they may also be waiting things out a bit to see what Blu hardware and software sales do once HD-DVD fire sales and such slow or stop (or waiting to see what happens more with the economy in general since that is definitely hurting sales right now).

I expect Universal will likely announce something soon since they are now done with HD-DVD this week. Paramount, I don't know exactly why they are waiting but at this point I would still peg their return to Blu production to be some time between July and September.
