Default Blu-ray DVD's in 6.1?

Are there any Blu-ray DVD's that are out and in DD or DTS 6.1??

Most of everything I've seen is Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, or DTS 5.1

Do they not encode DVD's that are in 6.1? I know there are some in 7.1, but that wouldn't do me any good on my set up.

...That's the home theatre system I have...a 6.1 set up.

Is 6.1 with Blu-ray already going to be a thing of the past?!

...Even though 5.1 is still the standard?

Threads like this just piss me off when I read them...

For reasons most regular posters would know.

There are the catalog titles from Lionsgate, but not from anyone else.
They have both DTS ES discrete and matrix.

Hey, sometimes it is important to educate people. Please don't RTFM somebody, just ignore them if it bothers you.

What is a "Blu-ray DVD"? A DVD with Blu-ray content on it?

Dolby Digital doesn't support true 6.1 or 7.1 tracks. As a matter of fact it doesn't support anything over 5.1.

Dolby Digital EX does support 6.1 and 7.1 (though I've never seen/heard 7.1) but not discretely. There are many titles out there that feature an EX track, which with an EX decoder, you can extract a 6th matrixed channel.

Off the top of my head BDs that feature Dolby Digital EX (6.1 Matrix):
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
  • Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Cars
  • Ratatouille
There are more I'm sure I just can't recall any more at the moment.

DTS on the other hand can have discrete 6.1 sound in the ES form. As someone else pointed out most older Lionsgate catalog titles feature DTS-ES 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX 5.1 (which contains a matrixed channel). One title that I know that contains a DTS-HD MA 6.1 track is X-Men: The Last Stand.

There are also a few titles (by Lionsgate) that feature 6.1 PCM and DTS-HD (not MA) tracks.

I've got to get me one of these new 'blu-ray DVDs'. Will they work in my BD player? Or do I need a new BD DVD player?
