Default How to get the sticky crap off your BD/DVD/CD cases

I've been using this technique for a while now, and since I just received a used Blu-ray disc in the mail that still had the sticky residue from the security stickers on the case, I thought I'd share it with you.

Often when I open a Blu-ray disc, DVD, or CD and try to remove the security sticker, a sticky residue will be left on the case. This is particularly annoying as the residue collects dust and lint and sticks to other cases when stacked. One method for removing this sticky mess that I've found to be almost foolproof is this: take the security sticker that you've just removed, apply it to a small portion of the residue, and pull it off quickly. You'll notice that a tiny bit of residue will come off with the sticker. Repeat this over and over, placing part of the sticker onto the residue and removing it quickly. Do this a few dozen times and you'll remove all the residue. As a side note, this produces an extremely annoying sound, so try to do this in isolation. Also, if you buy a used disc or have old cases that still have goo on them but don't have the original security sticker, a piece of packing tape will suffice. I hope this information is helpful to you.

I personally use goof off and a very sharp razor blade, quick and effective.

I just use goo gone and a paper towel. It's as simple as that.

Apply duct tape to the area and pull. Repeat. Very clean and very effective.

The TC does what I do, and it works TREMENDOUSLY well.

It's like waxing one's legs... if one were to be so inclined. I don't, but that's what it reminds me of. I don't wax my legs anyway. I do do the thing that the person said with the stickiness sticking.

Sometimes I wish I were more consise.

I never have sticky crap on my cases. I think some of you are taking the seals off in a way that is less than optimal if you get sticky residue. I take a box cutter and slit the seals along the crack, and then peel each half off from the inside. Works flawlessly.

I've used Goo Gone, and it's great for a lot of things, but when I try to use it on DVD or CD cases, they just get ruined. The Goo Gone gets under the clear plastic where the liner notes go and won't come out. Plus it's very messy.
