Default 10,000 Bc

So... is anyone who actually saw this still excited for the BD release? It is getting only 8% on rottentomatoes.com right now. Ouch. I have to agree with that assessment, having gone to see it earlier today. I went with friend, knowing that it was something we could mock. The bad thing is, I was expecting much more action (at least) than there actually was. The trailers are very misleading in this regard. And... you would expect there to be much more action than there is, given that this is an Emmerich film. I will break down the action sequences without telling what happens (for those who actually don't want to be spoiled):

--Wooly mammoth stampede/attack
--Crazy ostrich-looking thing jungle attack
--very, very brief encounter with sabretooth tiger
--Wooly mammoth stampede (again)/final battle that has very little fighting and no blood

I would say this action totals up to only about 20 minutes of 100-minute movie. Am I kidding? No, I wish I were. The other 80 minutes are cliched character moments. Stuff that borrows from about 25 other movies like LOTR, Conan, Pathfinder (blechh!), Jurassic Park, and Stargate (borrowing from himself on this one). Yet doesn't manage to one-up any of these. The closest thing I can compare it to is Pathfinder. Both are tales of "chosen" warriors living in historically inaccurate worlds attempting to get their kidnapped woman back. Only differences are less action in 10,000 BC and a bigger budget, which just means more CGI (animals in this case). Many of the non-action scenes are darkly-lit and I imagine won't even make for good demo material. Only one scene in particular that I notice really put surround sound to great use. I'd give this movie 1 out of 5 stars. I'll probably Netflix it on BD just to see how it translates to the home theater experience.

I saw it and really liked it. I liked the action, I liked the story (simple as it may be) and I liked the 3 main characters. I won't defend the movie as ground breaking cinema or anything, but I do think it delivered sheer entertainment, which is really all I think it intended to offer.

I also think it'll look great on BD, but that's something we'll just have to wait and see on. Regardless of PQ though, I'm still buying the BD when it comes out.

I'm not beyond owning stuff just for shits and giggles, so if the video and audio get 4.5's or better, I will probably pick it up in a sale. I thought the actors did well given the cliched script. It helps that they were a cast of unknowns. Emmerich's movies are a rare case wherein I would consider buying the movie even if I rate it very low because usually the action is worth it and makes great demo material. I'll be on the fence with this one though. Definitely not a pre-order.

This couldn't be any worse than Pathfinder or Dragon Wars. And seems like a lot of people picked up Dragon Wars

No this is worse than Dragon Wars imo. The movie just sucked, and didn't even have many amazing action sequences to make up for it imo, Dragon Wars although mindless was a fun experience.

Emmerich's going downhill with his films at a Paul WS Anderson rate. From Independence Day to Day After Tomorrow to this. I'm half expecting him to make a big budget remake of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes at this point.

Thats impossible... Dragon Wars didn't even live up to its title... should have been called "Giant Snake Attack" or some thing equally stupid. The best part of that movie was the Zoo Keeper IMO. So if 10,000 BC at least takes place in 10,000 BC then it will already have an advantage on Dragon Wars.
