Default What action movies would you recommend?

I'm quite a big movie buff regarding Dramas, but I have noticed that I barely know anything about Action films.

The only true "Action" films I own are:

Alien
Live Free or Die Hard
Speed
Star Wars
Crank
Shoot 'Em Up
Pirates of the Caribbean

Aside from that 80% of my movie collection is Drama, and a couple comedies and Horror films here and there.

I have never had an interest in Action films, but I feel it's only fair that I try to extend my taste accordingly.

Going out to Best Buy later today to pick up an order that just came in. Along with that I want to pick up a couple high-definition titles as well.

Any high-definition Action titles you would recommend? Preferably ones with impressive video quality?

Thanks in advance

I would certainly not classify 'Alien' as an action flick. It is definitely more of a suspense/sci-fi/horror movie than action. The later installments in the series might be labeled as action but the first is something different.

All the recommendations in this thread are the same movies I would suggest as well. The Die Hard Trilogy before Live Free is good too.

Gladiator (Russell Crowe)
Fifth Element
The Saint (Val Kilmer)
True Lies
The Rock (Cage/Connery)
Bad Boys (First one was good)

Those are what come to mind instantly.

You can't go wrong with any of the Die Hards or the Lethal Weapons. Black Hawk Down is also NON-STOP ACTION! I mean, honestly, from the moment the action starts to the end of the flick is almost sensory overload. Definitely a cool flick. Speed is also a good choice.

Most of the action films that I dig aren't on blu-ray yet, though. So I can't really help much. Best of luck in whatever you choose.
