Default Recent motion picture masterpieces

Since I got my surround system (to go with my 50"), I have only been to the theatre twice; once to see The Last King of Scotland (stellar, Whitaker deserves every award he's received) and Pan's Labyrinth (also incredible).

LKoS is a Fox Searchlight picture, PL is a Searchlight (New Line/HBO = Warner) release. I imagine these will be on Blu-ray later this year.

With the Oscars coming up I was thinking more about the best films of last year and who they're distributed by (last year was a good year for film).

The Queen - Fox
Little Miss Sunshine - Fox
Akeelah and the Bee - Lionsgate
Volver - Sony
Water - Fox
Ask the Dust - Paramount
The Science of Sleep - Warner
The Illusionist - Fox
The Prestige - Buena Vista
The Departed - Warner
Lady in the Water - Sony
The Fountain - Warner
Borat - Fox

I know everyone won't agree these are the best of last year, but critics loved them and most of them are nominated for something.

It appears they're all Blu-ray bound at some point in the future (or are already released on Blu-ray.

Us Blu-ray guys don't have to worry about a thing.

I already mentioned this was a subjective list, but do you think those two films trump the list I made?

Borat - Fox

51% are from Blu-ray exclusive studios
10% are from HD DVD exclusive studios

This means 82% of Oscar nominated movies are from Blu-ray supporting studios. I'm confident I've made the right choice.

There were so many good movies last year it's hard to pick a favorite.

Best actor performance was Forest Whitaker in Last King of Scotland easily. Pan's is probably the best screenplay and cinematography.

Its not about trumping the list, your 2nd list with all the nominations on is more informing. Don't forget its only natural More Oscar nominated movies will be released on Blu ray they have more top studios supporting them.
