Default 'Commando' -- pre-release buzz

Looks like April 15 is Schwarzenegger day on Blu-ray, with Fox now announcing 'Commando' to go along with 'Predator':

Specs are probably going to be disappointing, though, with 1080p/MPEG-2 video and DTS-MA audio.

Extras include only trailers and D-Box enhancement.

MSRP is Fox's typically high $39.98.

Wow. This is the same version of Commando that Fox pulled at the last minute. A few copies had leaked into a few stores and onto eBay. It's not even the Director's Cut.

I wonder if the PQ will be worth something...if not then I'll pass. Maybe a fan title only if it's as slim as it seems.

If it isn't the DC then I'll probably pass on it. With a $40 retail the least Fox could do is put both versions of the film on a Blu-ray disc. Fox Blu-rays piss me off. I own many of their films on dvd, but only 1 Blu-ray right now.

I bought it above $30 at NFMart because it was delayed and hard to get last summer. I watched it and still like the movie in a reminiscent sort of way as I used to watch alot in early 20's. It is grainy, FYI and now that everyone can get it... recommend only die hard Commandos to get it now and others to wait for sale. (BOGO) The sound is pretty good being DTS.

Just trying to think of other old movies to compare. An older movie such as The Warriors looks sharper than it.

Looks like now that HD-DVD is going down, free of competition, we will going to get only BD-25 encoded in mpeg2 from now on. This is starting to get interesting. Where are all the guys bragging about the importance of BD dual layers ?

My bet based on Fox's track record is to expect a Special Edition Blu-Ray version either by Christmas '08 or sometime in 2009. Fox & Sony are the worst when it comes to double/triple dips on titles, why would they treat Blu-Ray any different than DVD and actually release a feature loaded version the first go around?

They really need to learn that $40 is too high for a featureless disc, or just for a catalog title in general, every other studio gets that other than Fox. Disney charges $35 for Pirates 3 but Fox thinks that it's fine to charge $40 for a featureless Commando, it's time to give everyone a break already.
