Default World's first Blu-ray profile 1.1 disc. (PIP) Screenshot.

First Blu-ray Disc with PiP profile 1.1 announced -- players please?

That's it, you're looking at a screenshot from the world's first Blu-ray profile 1.1 disc. The title is Neues vom Wixxer, available in Germany on December 10th. Ok, not exactly a global blockbuster but a first's a first. As such, it supports the "Bonus View" profile which adds decoders for secondary PiP video and audio. This disc in particular, takes advantage of the profile by integrating video commentary from the film's makers and actors. Unfortunately for our dear German readers, Michael Becker, CEO of Imagion AG authoring studio laments that, "no Profile 1.1 players will be available on the [German] market" when it's released. Conversely, the US has a profile 1.1 player (and whispers of another) and no 1.1 media. Sigh. That tittering you hear is the sound of HD DVD fanboys who've had this functionality since day one.

[Thanks Tim W. and Michael B.]

Woo hoo! I don't care much for this PiP crap on HD and feel the same for BD.

Germany does have PS3s, so those with PS3s would be able to use the PiP feature. =)

Yup, I'm sure this is the worlds first picture ever of this LOL. Good job.

Question though - someone in another post put that the PIP could be swapped? Is this true with the PIP on BD? or does it depend on the specific disk? It would be cool to see a pic of that if it does it.

Thanks,

Yeah, amen to that... I'm so over even DVD extras.

And what is the big deal about PIP? Doesn't anyone remember the original SE of Mallrats, from 1999? With the PIP audio commentary? And they took a few revisions of blu ray to get it here, and it is like some big deal?

I honestly hate the PIP and IME crap. War and RE:E have it, and they work on my ps3, and I couldn't care less. Give me a HUD like Transformers had, only take out the behind the scenes bullshit, just gimme a straigh fact SUBTITLE track, w/ some fancy shmancy graphics, and I'm happy.
