Default WB Catalog question...

I haven't seen a FAQ or anything that addresses these titles, but if anyone could care to shed some light on it, I'd appreciate it.

If anyone's taken note of the HD DVD selection, WB has a whole slew of decent catalog titles as well as some previous day and date titles on HD DVD that are not on BluRay at all.

Most pointedly, there's things like the Matrix Trilogy, V for Vengance, Willy Wonka, Batman Begins, Casablanca, among other titles. Is there any particular reason why WB decided to make these handful of titles exclusive to HD DVD and not release them on BR? Most of these are titles I wouldn't mind picking up, yet WB didn't give BluRay a fair shake at any of these catalog titles.

What's the deal?

Specifically on the Matrix, is that a timed deal or something?

Also, related to another thread, someone mentioned something about New Line. If I read correctly, they're not announcing anything until Hairspray comes out on BR. That is supposed to be their first title (hopefully first in a wave).

Batman Begins is supposed to come out on Blu-ray, it's in a few of the "Coming Soon" ads for the format. I also believe that the Matrix is slated for an eventual release on the format, although I don't know what's taking so long...

You cna bet I'll buy both those once they finally roll around!

Warner is working to get those 25 HD DVD exclusive disks on BD, my guess is that most of them will be released by Spring.

They coundnt release most of them because HDDVD already had iHD but BD's BD-Java wasnt ready (most Warner films have Picture in Picture and PiP on BD wasnt ready)

Im still not sure the deal with the Perfect Storm, it doesnt have PiP but its still not on BD

From the IFA, they're on record stating the number of titles releasing in Q4 alone will outnumber the current releases so far this year. Titles confirmed were the Harry Potter films and Oceans trilogy. As for the other titles, my guess is we're going to see some HD DVD exclusives finally on Blu-ray. Which ones is still anybody's guess.

Thanks for your info. Would you happen to have a list handy of those 25 titles they've released on HD DVD but not Blu-ray?
