Due day-and-date with the standard DVD release, Paramount Home Entertainment will release 'World Trade Center' on both Blu-ray and HD DVD in time for the holidays.

Though Paramount previously hinted that Oliver Stone's controversial 9/11 drama would hit high-def later this year, the studio has officially announced a December 12 street date for the release.

I think it would be rather strange for someone to buy a buy about 9/11 on high def for the better picture quality and sound, i mean dont get me wrong, not trying to say they shouldnt make these movies or in high def, i just think its a little....akward, to buy something in high def where the sole purpose is to enjoy the movie in usually a much "cooler" way.

But having better pq and sq makes for a more immersive movie experience, the actual content of the movie is irrelevant in my eyes.

Isn't it weird that even with a BD50 disc Paramount is still making it a 2-Disc Set? Shouldn't the BD50 be able to handle the movie plus the extras? Then again 2 HD-DVD's = 60gb so that's over 50gb. It just seems pointless to have a 50gb disc and still need 2 discs to hold everything. It seems like as time goes by the need for the 50gb disc doesn't seem that great, especially when there are going to be 2-disc sets anyway.

Lol – that’s a good point. It flies in the face of all the arguments surrounding disc storage!
