Because they don't want or have HD DVD.

No. It's an identical release to the HD DVD.

I will not buy anymore Warner Blu-rays that are short-changed on audio. I tired of their [email protected] I bought Superman Returns early on before I new to look for such things. This announcement for Polar Express without lossless is bull.

As much as I have been waiting for Batman Begins, if the skimp on the lossless sound, I won't buy it. I'm tired of their double standards.

Neutral indeed.

I wouldn't have to get an HD DVD player if they were actually neutral and provided the same specs.

I get the pip stuff. Blu-ray can't do it, fine, we don't get it. But lack of lossless sound has been a constant issue with them. It's like they expect we won't notice.

The LAST THING I would do is go neutral to support Warner for shafting me in the first place. How would that help?

bluray release is identical to the hddvd release, it is not shortchanged

the hd dvd has a 640 kbps dd+ track
the bluray has a 640 kbps dd track

they are identical

That said, the Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track (encoded at 640kbps) that we do get is quite good. Though not a monumental upgrade over the standard Dolby Digital track on the previous DVD, the soundfield is a bit more open and spacious.

yes, that is the truth, and one of the most fervent supporters, for that matter.

That's fine then, but really, there is no reason for them NOT to add the lossless sound to this. It is still just laziness.

And the Highdefdigest post could have been a little more clear:

Quote:
Video is presented in 1080p/VC-1, and Warner has decided not to upgrade the audio to any of the high-resolution formats, so fans will once again have to content themselves with a sole Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track (at 640kbps).
A simple (same as the original HD DVD) could have gone a long way in keeping this misunderstanding at bay. It certainly seems as if they are referring to the past "norm" of getting shafted on sound quality. (They may want to consider updating that to avoid this misunderstanding).

Thanks for the info and clarification, Guru.
