Default 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three: 42nd Anniversary Special Edition' - HDD Review

Matthew has reviewed 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three: 42nd Anniversary Special Edition'. He says this fantastic flick returns to Blu-ray with the same great video and much improved audio. This is well worth the upgrade. Highly recommended!

Fantastic movie. Far, far superior to the "remake" *choke*. Glad it got a nice BR treatment.

Truly one of the best of the "classic NY in the 70's" movies in my book, and far better than the remake.

It's got one fo the few scores that I can listen to all the way through over and over and not get tired of. Plus, it's a damn good flick!

The original was brilliant. As the review said it is a top 10 desert island movie for me too.

I didn't think the 2009 remake was THAT awful. Not good mind you but not worthless.

Why I'm writing is that the 2009 version was the SECOND remake. Nobody ever remembers the first remake which was a 1998 made for TV movie on ABC. It had Edward James Olmos & Donnie Wahlburg. Now THIS one wasn't good. But I'm surprised nobody ever mentions it.

That's true, there was that 1998 remake - I never saw it, but I heard it wasn't bad. I think it gets overlooked because it was a TV movie and didn't get a wide theatrical release. Is it available on disc? I should take a look at it.

I'm with Matt and also with Joe on this one. I adore the original (which i saw for the first time in a double feature with DIRTY LARRY, CRAZY MARY), but Tony Scott's remake has its own insane charms that improve with subsequent viewings (though I'd argue UNSTOPPABLE is a much purer train thriller and better film).

My other thought: "42 Anniversary" How odd. Am I missing a connection to the story (42nd St or something)?

I don't think the 1998 version is. Or if it is, I can't recall. I still have my VHS recording from way back when. :-)

Nice! I'll have to dig around and see if I can't locate it. I have a vague recollection of when it was on TV, but I was 16 at the time and hadn't discovered the original yet.

I remember the 1998 version well, because by that point, the 1974 original had already moved into my life long Top 10. So yeah, when I heard about it, I checked it out. They changed things around - one of the hijackers was a woman - the "unstable one", if I remember right. Been too long since I've seen that.
