wow both the 2D and 3D versions are the same price, and the 3D combo pack has has the 2D and 3D versions on separate discs... No brainer here.. Whether you have 3D capabilities or not, go buy the 3D version, sell the 3D and DVD versions if you want..

"Into Thin Air" (Krakauer's account of these events) is one of my favourite books of all-time. Will be interested to see how it is translated onto the screen since I didn't get a chance to see Everest in theaters. This review gives me hope that it will live up to my expectations.

From my understanding they didn't use Krakauer's book as a source but instead used Beck Weathers' book "Left for Dead," I haven't read either so I can't speak to this being an adaptation but from the commentary and some of the other supplementary materials, it sounds like they used a number of sources so it may feel like a hodgepodge of various points of view.

I love mountain climbing movies. This might be the first film starring Jason Clarke that I'll like (I don't understand why he's a 'thing').

On a related note, The North Face is the most recent film of this genre that I've seen and it is a really fantastic thriller. I recommend that to anyone interested in this genre.

For anyone interested, I updated Matthew's awesome review with a few thoughts on the Dolby Atmos mix. Cheers.

Very well done film. It didn't receive much attention so it was better than expected.
