Without 3D, I'm not double dipping. If I had a 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 receiver and not a 5.1.2, it would be tempting. Maybe Germany or some other country will get a 3D ATMOS disc.

I still do not consider this a 5-star movie. Interesting, yes.
I'd be with malakai as well but do not see how this movie really pops in 3D. Just an unnecessary add-on/gimmick.
would not consider re-buying it even if I was hungry for Atmos discs, refer to my first sentence.

LOL at giving this movie a 5 star and the better movie Interstellar a lesser score. Give me a break.

Default Seamless branching?

I'm wondering if my Oppo BDP-83 might have any issues with this newest edition of Gravity due to any seamless branching on the disc. I have unfortunately experienced audio dropouts/abnormalities on a few discs the last few years, as discussed here over on another website. The two Star Trek reboot BDs (both standalone editions and Compendium) have been two movies so far, both via bitstreaming and PCM output. If I have any dropouts with this new Gravity release, I just might be forced to finally shell out for a new BDP-103D.

I'm really not happy with how Dolby implemented this seamless branching feature. If I had a choice between TrueHD and dts Master Audio, I'd choose dts every time.

FWIW, I am currently running a 7.1 system, so I am buying this edition for that immediate upgrade from 5.1 (unless, of course there is one single audio hiccup). Upgrading to Atmos would be too much trouble at this time for my current media room, as most likely would require ripping out the entire ceiling...

Actually got around to finally watching this one last week. Great film, but NOT a perfect 5-stars. 4-stars tops. The 3D presentation was 5-stars though. Absolutely stellar. Amazing DTS HD-MA track as well.

It sounds like this Atmos track is the real deal, but with no 3D option, there's really no point in buying this edition. The 3D effect really made this movie what it is. Can't believe Warner didn't include the 3D version with this new release. Crazy.

Michael, great review.

Really, really appreciate the breakdown at the end of:
Must Own for A, B, C... reasons
Highly Recommended for L, M, N... reasons
Skip It for X, Y, Z... reasons

For a bottom line Highly Recommended film, your review of it is a Must Read!

So basically this is one for Atmos people or potential Atmos people only?

I really like this film though - I think it's worlds better than INTERSTELLAR, although I like that movie too. Sometimes a simpler story works better, and GRAVITY proves that by being half as long and twice as good.

Gravity is a much tighter written film than Interstellar. I would give Gravity 4 stars. Gravity had me on my seat the entire time. Can't say the same for Interstellar. I also respect Gravity was about HALF as long

What is the purpose of this disc? Does the movie had additional footage in it? Because if not, then this seems utterly pointless.
