Default 'Automata' - HIgh-Def Digest Review

Steven has reviewed 'Automata'. He says this is a visually engaging sci-fi noir. Despite a few issues with the script, he says the video and audio on this Blu-ray are both strong. This is worth a look for fans of the genre.

I was very pleasantly surprised by it, loved the look and feel, I wouldn't give it a letter grade, but in the thumbs up, thumbs down vote I gave it a thumbs up after my blind buy.

Thumbs down for me on this one.

It has its moments, but boy were they few and sloooowly
far between. The robots moved so slowly, the low budget
was evident. But because they moved so slowly, the
human characters had to compensate and move slowly,
too. Otherwise it would look ridiculous that the humans
moved like hummingbirds around plant-like robots.

And for some reason, the director felt that he better move
the camera work slowly too, to also compensate.

And the screenwriting also joined the party, and decided
to move the plot at a turtle's pace, too.

Antonio Banderas who had to completely change his quick
Puss-in-Boots and Zorro feet, started to limp to slow his
pace to stay in camera with his robot cast mates. I'm
convinced that Banderas worked a limp causing injury into
the plot, because he couldn't move any slower.

I'm so glad I caught this on Netflix (needed many cups of
caffeine and still needed a few sittings to finish it) first.
Now I can get my $5 bucks back by returning my unopened
copy. Even at $5, it's going back.
